Book Review: Star Cruise: Marooned: (A Sectors SF Romance) by Veronica Scott

Star Cruise: Marooned: (A Sectors SF Romance) by Veronica Scott

Meg Antille works long hours on the charter cruise ship Far Horizon so she can send credits home to her family. Working hard to earn a promotion to a better post (and better pay), Meg has no time for romance.

Former Special Forces soldier Red Thomsill only took the berth on the Far Horizon in hopes of getting to know Meg better, but so far she’s kept him at a polite distance. A scheduled stopover on the idyllic beach of a nature preserve planet may be his last chance to impress the girl.

But when one of the passengers is attacked by a wild animal it becomes clear that conditions on the lushly forested Dantaralon aren’t as advertised – the ranger station is deserted, the defensive perimeter is down…and then the Far Horizon’s shuttle abruptly leaves without any of them.

Marooned on the dangerous outback world, romance is the least of their concerns, and yet Meg and Red cannot help being drawn to each other once they see how well they work together. But can they survive long enough to see their romance through? Or will the wild alien planet defeat them, ending their romance and their lives before anything can really begin?

20890-5-stars-rating-bmp     Escapism at its best   reviewed by J. Rhoades
Fast paced and tightly written, Star Cruise: Marooned is a not-to-be-missed sci-fi action adventure. Red and Meg are believable characters and while their relationship develops into a romantic one, it was secondary to the main plot and was therefore more believable. This was a fast read for me, not because of its length, but because of its timing. The action flowed without feeling contrived, both of the main characters were strong, capable, and engaging. Scott’s descriptions were broad enough to give the reader an imaginative feel for the setting without an overload of unnecessary details. I thoroughly enjoyed it and look forward to reading more of Ms. Scott’s work.

5 Stars  Wonderful new romance novel…..   reviewed by Rabid Readers Reviews
Veronica Scott has a talent for forming characters. Nima and Kamin meet while captives of an invading army. Nima is a dancer of talent but little note who has been taken and for a General to dance and possibly die for the foreign god. Kamin is an Egyptian who the savvy Nima instantly recognizes as a warrior. Her bravery and natural sympathy which leads her to offer him some much needed water forms a bond and together they escape.

Scott takes us on a wild ride with the pair. Aided with the special magic and unique characteristics Scott grants them they have strange experiences that fit perfectly with the well crafted plot. There was never a point where I said, “That shouldn’t or couldn’t happen” because though some of the plot points are not of this world Scott forms them in a way that could be believed of THAT world.

While not my favorite Scott book – an author for whom I am now a huge fangirl – I could not give “Dancer of the Nile” less than five stars. There is literally nothing wrong with this novel. Not a thing I would change. Loved every moment of this paranormal/historical romance. Pick it up today.

An Amazon Review ~ Magic of the Nile: Gods of Egypt

Magic of the Nile: Gods of Egypt

by Veronica Scott

5 stars   One of my favorite historical romance authors….

By Rabid Readers Reviews
Veronica Scott is quickly becoming my favorite author of historical romance. Each book she writes builds on the one before, stands on its own and just gets better and better. “Magic of the Nile” is a wonderful novel that is engrossing, entertaining and enacted by beautifully drawn characters in a time appropriate setting. A lot of historical romance could be transported to any time or place. Not so, “Magic of the Nile.” Scott’s attention to detail in ritual, custom and even style of war smacks of authenticity and creates a bond between the characters and their world.

Tyema is a wonderfully detailed character. She is timid and unsure in social settings but confident in her role as Sobek’s celebrant on earth. She is very uncomfortable in Thebes for it’s very contrived social musts and grateful to Sahure for his help but when it comes to the Head Priest of the Temple of Sobek in Thebes questioning her vision she smacks him down in what is a very realistic way for this extraordinarily well-crafted character. Tyema and Sahure are refreshingly direct with each other and in their lives so that the reader is clear in how they feel but also very clear on how impossible their feelings are for each other.

Scott doesn’t spare the background characters. We get a rich and developed mix of personalities from the scribes to the crocodile keeper to the sister married to a god. The whole world and characters are so interesting that this reader sat rapt as Tyema and Sahure walked through the Pharoah’s zoo. I was with them and loving every minute of it. “Magic of the Nile” transports the reader.

If you like romance you will love the Gods of Egypt series. Start with this one. It’s a wonderful read.

Book Description

Scorned and ignored as a child by her family because of her crippled foot, Tyema was magically healed by Sobek the Crocodile God, then installed as the High Priestess of his temple. But Tyema is still haunted by her memories, scarred by the abuse she endured. Despite Sobek’s protection, as an adult she’s become a near recluse inside the temple grounds…

Until Captain Sahure arrives in her remote town, sent from Thebes on an urgent mission for Pharaoh, requiring High Priestess Tyema’s help. From that moment on, her quiet, safe life is upended in ways she never could have expected.

But after a whirlwind romance with Sahure, the two part as Pharaoh orders him to undertake another assignment on Egypt’s dangerous frontier, far from Tyema’s remote town.

Heart-broken, Tyema is ready to return to her life of loneliness, official duties and, now, regret. But the Crocodile God has other plans for his priestess: she must uncover the sorcerer who threatens Pharaoh’s life with black magic. Soon enough, Tyema finds herself thrown into the chaos of Pharoah’s court, neck deep in intrigue and danger. Just when she thinks she can’t take the pressures of a very public court life and her secret investigation for the Crocodile God any longer, Sahure re-enters the scene.

But is her former love there to help or to hinder? Can they resolve their differences and work together to find the dark sorcerer who threatens Pharaoh and Egypt? Will the love between a proud warrior and a shy priestess lead them to a future together?

Standalone sequel to Priestess of the Nile…
