Book Review: Technology vs. Humanity: The coming clash between man and machine (FutureScapes) by Gerd Leonhard

In his latest book Technology vs. Humanity, futurist Gerd Leonhard asks, “How can society stay in control as machines enter deeper into our lives, our bodies, and eventually our brains?”

Technology vs. Humanity:
The coming clash between man and machine
(FutureScapes)
by Gerd Leonhard

Futurist Gerd Leonhard breaks new ground again by bringing together mankind’s urge to upgrade and automate everything—down to human biology itself—with our timeless quest for freedom and happiness.

Before it’s too late, we must stop and ask the big questions: How do we embrace technology without becoming it? When it happens—gradually, then suddenly—the machine era will create the greatest watershed in human life on Earth. Technology vs. Humanity is one of the last moral maps we’ll get as humanity enters the Jurassic Park of Big Tech.

Artificial intelligence. Cognitive computing. The Singularity. Digital obesity. Printed food. The Internet of Things. The death of privacy. The end of work-as-we-know-it, and radical longevity: The imminent clash between technology and humanity is already rushing towards us. What moral values are you prepared to stand up for—before being human alters its meaning forever?

Gerd Leonhard is a new kind of futurist schooled in the humanities as much as in technology. In his most provocative book to date, he explores the exponential changes swamping our societies, providing rich insights and deep wisdom for business leaders, professionals and anyone with decisions to make in this new era.

If you take being human for granted, press Reset now with this passionately argued call to create a genuinely braver new world.

5 stars Essential perspectives on how humanity, ethics, values and people can remain centre stage in a future of technology dominance  reviewed by Jens U. Hansen

Gerd Leonhard is very successfully bringing humanity into the centre of the exponential technology development that we are right in the middle of. He brilliantly discuss some of the polarities and dilemmas that are right in front of us as citizens, politicians, entrepreneurs, business leaders, parents. Everyone that is concerned with how we bring humanity forward in the age of robotics, automation, internet of things, big data, etc. can benefit from the deep insights that Gerd Leonhard so richly is sharing in his 2016 book Technology vs. Humanity. Closely connected to the sound development and transformation of global business leadership myself I give Technology vs. Humanity my warmest recommendations.

A Work of Fiction ~ A Training Scenerio for Our Country

The Massacre In Orlando Shows Just How Unprepared
Our Nation Is In The Fight To Stop Domestic Terrorism

Military expert, author and historian Dr. William R. Forstchen believes ISIS will soon target schools, interstate highways and churches in the U.S. “They said they’re bringing the war to us, to our children and civilians,” says Forstchen, “Sadly, it’s just beginning…”

This is the terrifying premise of his most recent book, Day of Wrath, which is again drawing significant attention.  A number of security experts and law enforcement officials observe that Day of Wrath is not just a warning, but should be viewed literally as a “training scenario,” when considering how to protect our schools from a terrorist assault similar to the massacres created by Islamic terrorists in Beslan, Russia in 2004 and Pakistan in 2014.

Although it’s a work of fiction, the actual threat is critical and highly probable. For that reason Day of Wrath went directly to ebook self-publication. “This story must reach the public immediately and should be used as a platform for debate as to how to respond and stop ISIS,” he explains. A print version is also available now.

Forstchen, author of more than fifty books, presents a horrifying but likely scenario in Day of Wrath. Forstchen’s heart-stopping novella brings home just how vulnerable our infrastructure really is. It is also a story of heroic efforts to save lives, while sounding a wake-up call to American citizens and their government.

William R. Forstchen is a New York Times bestselling author and holds a doctoral degree from Purdue University with a specialization in military history and technology.

He is a noted expert historian and public speaker and has been interviewed on FOX News, C-SPAN, and Coast to Coast on topics ranging from history to technology and cultural issues, to space technology development, to security threats. Other recent works by Forstchen include One Second After and One Year After, both NYT best sellers examining the potential threat against our nation’s electrical infrastructure by means of an EMP (electro-magnetic pulse) attack launched by Iran.

   Day of Wrath

Bob Petersen arrives with his daughter at the Middle Grade school in Maine where he teaches, expecting another regular day but worried about what recent ominous news reports might portend. Suddenly his school — along with many others across the United States — is under attack. Gunmen burst in, slaughtering children and adults alike. This novella by New York Times bestselling author William R. Forstchen imagines a horrifying scenario where, in the course of one day, the terrorist group ISIS carries out massacres in schools and on highways across the United States. With a surprisingly small but well-organized and ruthless force, the nightmarish devastation brings America to a state of near-paralysis. Author of One Second After and Pillar to the Sky, this heart-stopping novella brings home just how fragile our defenses and infrastructure really are. It is also a story of heroic efforts to save lives, while sounding a wake-up call to American citizens and their government. From the ISIS leader in Syria, to the murderous rampages throughout the U.S., Day of Wrath reveals with chilling effect how national panic and paralyzing terror at the spiraling violence can bring a mighty country to a near-standstill. Petersen’s fight to save lives and stop the merciless gunmen provides edge-of-the-seat drama. Day of Wrath is a provocative work that should stimulate an intense national debate. One Second After was cited on the floor of Congress as the book everyone should read. “A THRILLING – AND TERRIFYING – TALE OF WHAT COULD BE OUR NEXT 9/11!” – W.E.B. Griffin & William E. Book Review: Red Kool-Aid, Blue Kool Aid by Leonard A Zwelling, MD, MBA

Red Kool Aid Blue Kool Aid: What Really Happened To The Promise Of Obamacare

For better or worse, the Affordable Care Act will be an important piece of Barack Obama’s legacy. Leonard Zwelling, MD, sheds light on little-known details of perhaps one of the most controversial legislative efforts during Obama’s term in office in Red Kool Aid Blue Kool Aid:  How Partisan Politics and Greed Undermined ObamaCare (Franklin Scribes Publishers).

Red Kool Aid Blue Kool Aid is the dizzying memoir of Dr. Zwelling’s experience on Capitol Hill as a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation health policy fellow, struggling to bring some medicine and science to a highly politicized environment of big money and bigger politics. In the process, the details of the city of Washington, DC and its Byzantine operation are revealed. The forces influencing legislation are never discussed on the TV news shows and rarely in the press at all, he points out.

Leonard Zwelling, MD, MBA, is board-certified in internal medicine and medical oncology. He has cared for patients and done laboratory research for most of his 40+ year medical career. He was also a medical administrator, overseeing the largest infrastructure for cancer research in the world for more than ten years as the Vice President for Research Administration at the MD Anderson Cancer Center. Additionally, he was a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation health policy fellow serving on the minority staff of the US Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions. Dr. Zwelling is currently an author, speaker, teacher and consultant.

Richard Andrassy, Amazon.com reviewer: “This is the educational experience of an exceptionally well trained and respected physician thrown into the ‘reality’ of Washington politics. As physicians, we try to go from the large differential diagnosis to the most likely cause as fast as possible. Not true in Law or Politics. I learned a lot about the games in Washington by reading this book. I think it will be eye opening to many physicians. We aren’t considered big players in Washington and we are surely not organized within our own ranks. This book is not only educational, but easy to read and keeps your attention. Whether you are Red or Blue or ‘in-between,’ you will enjoy the candid report of a physician’s year on the Hill.  Entertaining, enlightening and exasperating.”

John F. Mills, Amazon.com reviewer: “Finally the truth…Dr. Zwelling uncovers the theme of the forces in play that gave birth to ObamaCare…money and petit politics had more to do with the bill than did improving the state of health care in America. Furthermore, the way legislation is supposed to be passed was subverted and most of the legislators apparently never even read the bill. It’s here. It’s clear. It’s frightening.”

Politics & America’s Healthcare

Red Kool Aid and Blue Kool Aid: An Educational Read That Explains Why Politics Should Not Be Involved In America’s Healthcare

ObamaCare – is it a right or a privilege?   Leonard Zwelling, MD, sheds light on little-known details of perhaps one of the most talked-about enacted policies of President Obama’s term in office in his book, Red Kool Aid and Blue Kool Aid:  How Partisan Politics and Greed Undermined ObamaCare.

Red Kool Aid and Blue Kool Aid is the dizzying memoir of Dr. Zwelling’s experience on Capitol Hill when he was a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation health policy fellow.  Count on readers to understand the Big Money-Big Politics dealings that lead up to gaining approval for ObamaCare.

“There’s the Constitution and then there’s reality,” say Dr. Zwelling.  “ObamaCare is a prime example of how Congress can undermine the Constitution because of partisan interests or the effectiveness of lobbyists.”

Book Review: A More Perfect Union by R. W. Richard

Politics as unusual

Former Miss Cherokee Nation, present Virginia Senator, Ayita Starblanket, is running against a former MLB slugger and present Florida Governor, Arturo Arnez.

After circumstances force the unlikely pair together, she suspects her opponent is falling for her.

Jimi Hendrix once said, “When the power of love overcomes the love of power the world will know peace.” But is it that simple?

5 star review
Can’t think of a better romance to celebrate the USA reviewed by Del
With Hillary Clinton about to run for president this book is a must read. Not that the heroine is Hillary, she’s not, but because it’s a lighthearted look at a crossroads where love of country intersects with the right to be personally happy or fulfilled. The ending blew me away and brought tears to my eyes.Forget current politics, this book is timeless because it addresses the underlying strength of a country based on the premise that all men are created equally.
5 star review  A Great Read.  reviewed by Toni Noel
From the bombing on the first page intended to eliminate both presidential candidates until the last vote is counted on election night the reader is pulled into this fresh take on political campaigns. The author brilliantly pits a nation divided by bickering and the desires of the heart with gratifying results. Great job, RW Richards.
