Book Promo ~ Santa Claus Worldwide

A History of St.  Nicholas and
Other Midwinter Gift-Bringers

Finally: Proof of Santa’s Existence and His Impact on Our World

The 200-year legacy of the American Santa Claus as we know him is meticulously documented and explained in author Tom Jerman’s fascinating new book, Santa Claus Worldwide: A History of St. Nicholas and Other Holiday Gift-Bringers.

Readers will be surprised to learn Santa’s true origin story (hint: it wasn’t in Clement C. Moore’s popular poem, “The Night Before Christmas”), plus they’ll be treated to a deep dive into the backstories of other midwinter gift-givers from all over the globe. Jerman’s exhaustive research is evident in his detailed descriptions, and he masterfully showcases the rich diversity among the characters while also pointing out shared traits.

Santa Claus Worldwide is the first legitimate history of Santa Claus in more than a decade, and the first history in more than 100 years to provide a comprehensive look at the Yuletide gift-givers throughout the world.

Readers will discover:

• How midwinter gift-givers developed over thousands of years;

• The difference between Catholic followers of St. Nicholas and Protestant followers of the secular “terror men” in Europe following the Reformation;

• Historical examples of midwinter gift-givers who were female, Black, rich, gay, atheist and communist;

• When and how a New York printer named William Gilley created the “American Santa Claus” in an 1821 booklet, The Children’s Friend;

• How a wealthy New York professor, Clement C. Moore, bought a copy of The Children’s Friend and, in 1822, wrote “The Night Before Christmas;” and

• How The Children’s Friend disappeared from history until it was rediscovered in 1953.

Ultimately, Santa Claus Worldwide proves, conclusively, the existence of Santa and his impact on our world.

“Santa indisputably exists as the symbol of Christmas, and Christmas represents our most noble virtues,” Jerman says. “Symbols are real, and they can be very powerful.”

About the Author

Tom A. Jerman, a resident of Asheville, N.C., has bachelor’s degrees in philosophy and journalism and a juris doctorate degree from the University of Utah. Employed as a copy editor with The Salt Lake Tribune between 1974-78, he went on to practice labor and employment law for 35 years. In 2015, he took early retirement to pursue his desire to write something more interesting and enduring than legal treatises.

A serious collector, Jerman has amassed some 4,500 Santa figurines and ornaments, and thousands of antique postcards printed between 1900 and 1910. The enormous diversity of figures — temporal, geographic, historical, size, attire, date of gift-giving, mode of travel — prompted him to write Santa Claus Worldwide, the first volume of a planned trilogy.

Book Promo ~ Inside Amazon: My Story

Gisela Hausmann’s experiences as a small publisher,
a top reviewer, an indie author, and a warehouse associate

Inside Amazon: My Story by [Gisela Hausmann]

Her story begins in 1997 when she decides to self-publish a book. As Hausmann takes a closer look at Jeff Bezos’ new online bookstore the mass media expert begins to suspect that Jeff Bezos has loftier goals than selling books.

Having the opportunity to take advantage of Amazon’s fantastic PR tools for self-published authors in the late nineties Hausmann becomes a fan. She sees Bezos as “the new Gutenberg” and the “most powerful defender of the First Amendment.”

But tragedy strikes and Hausmann must switch gears. She embarks on a career in the transportation industry, first at Fedex and then at a NVOCC and freight forwarder. A few years later she begins writing books again, on the side.

She earns an excellent reputation as an author of “naked,” no-fluff, no-nonsense non-fiction books and some of her books get featured in major publications. But eventually, the Kindle self-publishing platform loses its appeal for Hausmann. Fake review writers, scammers, questionable “book marketers,” and authors who are mostly motivated by the idea to publish books as a “means of building a passive income” have done their damage.

By 2019, Hausmann is irritated with U.S. politics and the economy; she still remembers living through the Great Recession all too well. Hence, when by chance, she finds out that Amazon opened a warehouse in her hometown she decides to apply for a job. She wants to work her way up at her favorite company.

Though, in the months to come, Hausmann cannot discover any “Amazon Day-1 thinking” at the warehouse she stays optimistic and tries her best to embody Amazon’s leadership principles.

Then, the Covid crisis strikes.

Inside Amazon is compelling because, for the longest time, Hausmann keeps rooting for the company. She does not look at what is going on at the warehouse through the eyes of a labor activist but as a transportation and marketing professional and actively searches for applications of Jeff Bezos’ “Day 1”-philosophy and the company’s leadership principles.

Alas, at the warehouse where she works for 468 days, the transportation professional sees only one of Jeff Bezos’ leadership principles in action – uninspiring (instead of clever) “frugality.”

Book Review: Beale Street Blues by Angela Kay Austin

Beale Street Blues

by Angela Kay Austin

Darling Crawford lost the man she loved to another woman. Returning to her parents was bad enough, but returning home broke, divorced, and jobless is awful. Right about now she just needs to have fun.

A man with a sexy southern drawl. A strong drink. A night of dancing. What happens on Beale Street stays on Beale Street, right?

About the Author:

angelakayaustin vhp Angela Kay Austin has always loved expressing herself creatively. An infatuation with music led to years playing several instruments, some better than others. A love for acting put her in front of a camera or two for her thirty seconds of fame before giving way to a degree and career in communications. Amazon Customer Review:

5 stars  Enjoyable reviewed by TJ7109md
I think the best part of this story is the fact it was about two older (40ish) people and the focus was not placed on the wealth of the male and his saving a poor, struggling female but the personal challenges they either created or faced to be together. I think the age of the primary characters helped present a more mature, relatable story than what other writers are putting out these days. It was not full over the top erotica for one. While the storyline is not new, I like that Darling had doubts and struggled with life after a divorce – her actions were more reflective of reality than what is traditionally presented in a majority of IRR using this same storyline. Great job to this author – first time reading her work but looking forward to future releases.

Book Review: Seducing the Chef (At First Sight Book 1) by Janet Lane-Walters

An Amazon Review

5 starsA Great Romance!  Reviewed by Catherine
I loved this book. It’s one of the those books you can’t put down and before you know it, you have the read the entire thing. It was a feel happy kind of book that leaves you feeling good. The characters are likeable and I would recommend this to all romance lovers.,

Seducing the Chef – Allie Blakefield, editor of Good Eatin’ wants to do a feature on Five Cuisines a restaurant across the river from NY City. Her father forbids the feature and won’t say why. She’s not one to sit back and be ruled by someone. She borrows a friend’s apartment.

While leaning over the balcony she sees a handsome dark haired man doing a Yoga routine. He looks up and she is struck by the Blakefield curse. Love at first sight.

The pair start a hot and heavy romantic interlude. She visits the restaurant and is recognized by Greg, the chef’s mother. The woman goes ballistic and the affair is broken. Can Allie learn what’s going on and rescue her love?

She has many books in the romance genre, some of them are contemporary and are nurse romance, others fall into the fantasy or paranormal forms of romance. Interested in reincarnation, she has used this as a jumping point for at least two novels. Two of her novels deal with alternate worlds using a love affair with Ancient Egypt.

Under her other name J.L. Walters she has written a YA fantasy series called Affinities. She has also written a non-fiction book when her co-author Jane Toombs that won the EPIC Award in 2003 for best Non-fiction. During her career she has received other awards and has a number of great reviews.

Besides her four adult children, she has seven grandchildren. Five of them are the models for the YA series. The other two arrived too late to play a large role in the series.
