Heroes 2020: JESSE GOLDSMITH

JESSE GOLDSMITH

HAVERSTRAW EMS
DRIVER/EMT
Jesse is just ONE OF THOSE GUYS… He is a member of multiple EMS agencies and although he is not a volunteer with our agency, he CARES about the agency enough that many times he has offered to resign from his paid position and become a volunteer because he WANTS TO SEE THE AGENCY SUCCEED.
When COVID19 made its GRAND ENTRANCE Jesse had some difficult decisions to make.  He lives at home with his parents who are elderly and he was concerned about their health.  Jessie rented a hotel room and has been staying away from his parents to keep them safe.  Jesse has been picking up additional shifts at HVAC to help keep up with the call demand.
An EMT with great clinical skills, He is detail oriented, and truly cares about his patients.  He is also very sensitive—COVID-19 has been very challenging and sometimes challenges our decision making skills.  Jesse tended to a patient early in the morning one day and the patient stayed home, 5 hours later the patient’s condition  deteriorated and was transported to the Emergency Room and subsequently passed away.  Jessie took this very personally.  What that did to him, was made him a better clinician.
Jesse now takes on EVERY call with the knowledge that HE IS A GREAT PROVIDER and although COVID-19 won one patient on his watch, it’s going to have to TRY MUCH HARDER for it to HAPPEN AGAIN.
“I WISH I HAD MORE JESSE GOLDSMITHS.”
says HVAC Captain T. Hamilton
