Catskills Cabaret at Neve Shalom featuring Kenny Ellis

Kenny Ellis is perfectly at home performing at a Catskill’s resort, The Copacabana, The Improv, the Miami Beach club scene, a kibbutz, army camp or the national radio in Israel – or the stage in any synagogue here or abroad. With early career years spent working his way through the New York performing arts scene, from Broadway to upstate, Ellis counts singing with Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach z”l at the Roosevelt Hotel as one of the highlights of his career.

Ellis is most well known for his 2005 Hanukkah Swings CD, still a consistent top seller in its category on Amazon Music. “Part of my life’s work has been discovering new entertaining avenues to show what Jewish life can be. [The CD] is a celebration of Jewish life and music, not just for people of our culture and faith, but for everybody,” Ellis says of this work.

When he’s not performing or teaching, the Philadelphia-born Ellis serves as the cantor at Temple Beth Ami in Santa Clarita, CA (Los Angeles area), where he has worked since 2010. Prior to Temple Beth Ami, he was the cantor at Temple Beth Haverim in Agoura Hills, CA for 15 years.

SANDY REMEMBRANCE CONCERT ~ Aug 1

CARL FISCHER RETURNS TO FREEPORT
FOR SANDY REMEMBRANCE CONCERT
AT HUDSON ON THE MILE

Horn Player for Billy Joel, Diana Ross and Numerous Others Lived on Nautical Mile During Storm

Freeport, NY (July 22, 2013) – It was announced today that the Freeport, Long Island, NY born musician Carl Fischer, whose horn playing can be heard on a who’s who of pop music concert tours including Billy Joel, Elton John, and currently with Diana Ross, will be performing a special concert with his band the Organic Groove Ensemble in remembrance of what happened to Freeport and other areas of Long Island during Superstorm Sandy at Hudson On The Mile, located at 340 Woodcleft Ave in Freeport, NY on Thursday August 1st from 7pm-10pm

Carl is uniquely qualified to host such an event, as his house was damaged with him and his wife’s belongings in it on that fateful day, as it was situated on the Nautical Mile (Guy Lombardo Ave) across the canal from the venue (as originally reported as it was happening on News 12 Long Island with Carl interviewed on air by Shari Einhorn). Whenever Carl Fischer blows his trumpet, kudos seem to follow. Billy Joel, in whose band Fischer has performed for the past eight years, called Fischer a “gifted musician” while the late jazz legend Maynard Ferguson, who also employed Carl, called him “one of the best jazz trumpeters today.”

“Superstorm Sandy took away some stuff, but it didn’t break my spirit” Carl said. “It’s amazing to see that I’ve come back to a Freeport stronger and more vibrant than before. I’ve performed and enjoyed spending time on this stretch of land for countless years, and so I’m excited to have the opportunity to get the Mile grooving once again.”

Admission is always free at Hudson on the Mile: “The best thing to hit Freeport by a Nautical Mile!” The best in Steak, Sushi, Seafood and more – from the people who brought you The Maliblue Oyster Bar in Lido Beach. Call 516-442-5569 or visit www.hudsononthemile.com for full information.
