Free and Fearless:
The Amazing Impact of
One Precious Life

by Phil Moser

This Courageous Young Woman’s Story Is
Testament That One Life Really Can Impact The World

One thing most of us can’t get enough of right now are inspiring stories that put all the stress, fear and worry of the current pandemic into perspective. How about a story of an incredible young woman who lived a life without limits and managed to enrich every life she touched – regardless of the fact she had a rare and incurable disease? Brittany Moser and her best friend, her dad, set out on the journey of a lifetime and their unforgettable adventure became the backdrop for Philip Moser’s book, Free and Fearless: The Amazing Impact of One Precious Life.

“This book is not about the grief of losing a child, but about making the most out of what we are given and living our lives positively and not out of fear,” writes author (and Brittany’s father) Philip Moser. “Brittany inspired me, an ordinary farm boy, to explore life, to climb mountains and to write a book.”

In 2015, Brittany was diagnosed with Addison’s disease, a rare condition that can lead to adrenal failure. She passed away in 2017.

The book is an honest, poignant account of Brittany’s legacy and the ripple effect that her outlook on life had on those around her. Among Brittany’s valuable life lessons that Philip shares with readers are:

1. How precious life is and how we can affect the people around us;
2. How an open mind and a positive attitude can inspire us to do things we never thought possible;
3. How to move out of our comfort zones and into a challenging existence that can turn each day into an exciting gift to be explored;
4. How to not let fear control us, and to use our abilities to seek unique, positive and inspiring adventures;
5. To embrace change as a natural part of life;
6. And finally, that we won’t be remembered by our things or our savings accounts, but by how we made other people feel.

“I want to share the same inspiration that I received for 32 years,” Philip added. “In the end, love truly does conquer all, and Brittany wanted us to know that.”

Author Philip Moser grew up on a farm in Angola, Indiana. After high school, he began working in different aspects of the grocery business, a career that continues to this day. He and his wife, Marilyn Wells, raised two incredible daughters, Camille and Brittany.

Survivor Of Personal And Professional Adversity
Shares Remarkable Story Of Perseverance
No More Dodging Bullets: A Memoir about Faith, Love, Lessons, and Growth by Amy Herrig

Amy Herrig is the epitome of ‘beating the odds.’ Today, her life is great; she’s happily married, enjoys football, reading, and cooking gourmet meals for her family. But it wasn’t always this way. Since her teens, Amy has battled addictions, fought a 4-year lawsuit with the government that threatened to take everything she had–including her freedom–and triumphed over breast cancer. Amy emerged with a new outlook of gratitude and humility that has transformed her life.

In her memoir No More Dodging Bullets, Herrig recounts her struggle with heroin addiction during her teenage years and, as an adult, an addiction to money. She and her father were the successful owners of a number of businesses, raking in the profits and enjoying all that it could buy when the government slapped them with a lawsuit that threatened to strip them of everything, including their freedom. During that four-year battle, she was served with another notice: she had breast cancer.

Her struggles, she says, have served to provide her with a new perspective and have deepened her faith. “All the bullets I’ve dodged and all the things that have happened made me realize how lucky I am to be alive,” she says.

Today, Herrig volunteers regularly and has founded the nonprofit, Hopeful Tuesdays, to assist the homeless in her community. She and her family enjoy spending time in Alaska, helping to run the family business there and spending time hiking and fishing. A self-professed foodie, she’s frequently hosting dinner parties and delving into meaningful conversations with her close circle of friends.

Review
“The details of a federal jury selection and trial, the government’s rather suspect practices, and what constitutes a legal substance as opposed to an illegal one are well laid-out and fascinating….Amy Herrig’s memoir of a life managing a “head shop” and the high-profile legal and moral battles that ensue, is by turns intriguing, infuriating, and inspiring” – IndieReader

Written with a deliciously humorous tone, this essential guide to beating the breast cancer blues combines von Brainisfried’s own experiences and insights with research-based positive psychology strategies. Along the way, she shares wisdom from Socrates, Cherokee legends and her own Jewish great-grandmother to help those facing cancer diagnoses reclaim their happiness mojo and move from fear and despair to positivity and optimism.

From her own breast cancer diagnosis to chemo, baldness, double mastectomy, radiation —and 3-D nipple tattoos — she holds nothing back, imparting refreshing honesty (that’s always dappled with humor) to encourage and empower others on their journeys. Bonjour, Breast Cancer — I’m Still Smiling! is the closest thing to having a hand to hold onto throughout any difficult experience.

•    Tame fear when it is acting like a monkey and going bananas
•    Find the pluses when they pop up

Bonjour, Breast Cancer — I’m Still Smiling! shares a king’s ransom of practical advice and wisdom to find positivity in the face of the challenges posed by breast cancer and everything that goes with it.

When author Princess Diane is not smashing champagne bottles over the bows of ships or blogging her brains out at her palace desk, she’s a motivational speaker and certified positive psychology life coach, the optimist expert for the Women’s Health Institute of Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, and was a facilitator at Miami’s World Happiness Summit. When the Princess is not wearing her tiara, she is known as Diane Young Uniman, a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of The University of Pennsylvania and criminal justice appeals attorney turned writer of screenplays and musicals. Her work has been featured at Lincoln Center’s Broadway’s Future series and was accepted into Fringe/NYC. She has won over 50 awards for her screenplays and musicals and an ASCAP award for writing. An Unlikely Sisterhood

Standing Strong: The Inspiring Story of an Unlikely Sisterhood and the Court Case That Made History

By Diane Reeve with Jenna Glatzer

A triumphant true crime story in which a diverse group of women band together in a landmark legal case against the man who deceived them all. It’s Dallas Buyers Club meets Erin Brockovich.

Diane Reeve gives her reader a tough pill to swallow with her intensely gut-wrenching, true crime memoir Standing Strong: The Inspiring Story of an Unlikely Sisterhood and the Court Case that Made History (HCI Books — $15.95). Her 7th Degree black belt in martial arts background connects the concentration, the punches to the gut, the restraint, the thrill, the power and the knowledge to any reader that dares to grasp on to this hard-to-put-down book.

In her first chapter, Black Corvette, Diane Reeve accelerates into the moment her life takes a sharp turn. A day meant for sweet memories of her daughter’s wedding halts at a fork in the road of her life. Immediately, the reader has been captured to travel a hard-to-believe real life journey as Reeve unpacks the sick reality that Philippe Padieu, the love of her life, was deliberately infecting multiple women—women in their 20s through 60s, with little in common except their vulnerability and now… HIV.

Diagnosed with AIDs, Diane vowed to stop Philippe from victimizing anyone else despite her plummeting t-cell numbers and declining health. In a race against time, she tracked down as many of his conquests as possible. Against all odds, this unlikely group made legal history, successfully prosecuting Padieu and sending him to prison for assault with a deadly weapon.

It was a sisterhood none of them wanted to belong to, but it became their lifeline as they struggled with anger, the specter and stigma of an HIV diagnosis, and failing health.This fascinating case—won only through the help of new DNA science—is Diane’s story of victory and her mission to bring awareness and empowerment to others. As she explains, “Courage is doing what’s right, even when you’re afraid.”

Highlights from the book:

•    “He made me feel strong yet protected, desired and cherished.”

•    “I was never going to be able to forget this night, June 17, 2006; it would be forever linked with my daughter’s wedding.”

•    “Even though we were all in the same boat, I guess I hoped to be better and prettier than the others.”

•    “If there was anything in my life that I’d like to take back, it was the moment I hit “send” on that first e-mail.

•    “I exhaled. Things were going to be different. This was a man I could trust.”

•    “I was sure he could have just about any woman he wanted, and I was flattered that he chose me.”

•    “I have to do the best I can every day to show people what it is to be a person living with HIV—a real person who is more than just a diagnosis.”

Receiving widespread recognition by the media in 2009, this historical case is exposed once more and even further into the psyche of Diane. Brilliantly written, the reader is able to feel the frustration, depression, hope and the many other inconceivable emotions that Reeve encountered as she fought the battle to bring down a pathological perpetrator, build a sisterhood, and manage her very own health all at the same time. The reader becomes a part of her team and sympathizes yet roots for her courage.

HCI Books Targets Recovery Audience As Portal To Burgeoning Adult Coloring Book Market

Bring The Soothing Magic Of Coloring To Your Audience Introducing Inkspirations for Recovery

If the trend is already white hot and Amazon’s bestseller list is showing nearly half of its books in this genre, why would HCI Books choose now to jump into the crowded adult coloring book category?  HCI is responding with Inkspirations for Recovery, the first in a series of adult coloring books that stand out from the pack. Like its legendary bestselling series, Chicken Soup for the Soul, HCI’s Inkspirations is poised for success. More importantly, in the company’s tradition, the books are poised to make a difference in people’s lives.

“We think our first adult coloring book targets an audience that may benefit greatly from the stress-relieving and therapeutic qualities of coloring – the  recovery and addictions community,” says Publisher and President, Peter Vegso. “HCI was founded in the addictions and recovery business and more and more has been returning to its roots and with conference and magazine divisions that cater to addictions professionals, Inkspirations seems a natural fit.”

HCI understands that the industry’s two biggest adult coloring books have sold over 13.5 million copies in 50 countries since 2013 and is inspired to launch its own trademark series.

Inkspirations for Recovery features the talented illustrator and writer, Judy Clement Wall (www.judyclementwall), as well as recovery icon, Rokelle Lerner, Senior Clinical Advisor of Eric Clapton’s treatment center, Crossroads Centre Antigua and author of numerous bestselling books including Daily Affirmations for Adult Children of Alcoholics.

“I’m thrilled to be associated with the first book in the Inkspirations line and plan on incorporating the coloring books in my practice,” said Lerner. “The effect coloring has on the brain is amazing for relieving stress which is key in the healing process of anyone suffering from addiction.”

HCI will market the Inkspirations for Recovery edition of its new series to the general public as well as to counselors, social workers and psychotherapists, and is offering “private label” branding on the books for treatment centers. The second book in the series is Inkspirations for Women featuring NY Times bestselling author, Marci Shimoff  (Chicken Soup for the Women’s Soul series and Happy For No Reason), and will be available in late March 2016.

Brainstorm narrates a cerebral aneurysm in the immediate family and the onslaught of trauma, non-communication and overwhelming legality. Brainstorm follows a conscientious couple seeking participation in the process, to no avail.

Robert Wintner is Snorkel Bob, Hawaii’s largest reef outfitter, and has written fifteen books, including Pulitzer-nominated In Sweet Magnolia Time and two movie-optioned novels, The Modern Outlaws and Whirlaway.

About Tim I. Gurung

One Man’s Legacy: Writing To Help The Poor,
The Weak And The Needy Around The World

It’s refreshing to hear an author describe himself as ‘a writer of conscience and righteousness.’ Tim I. Gurung has six published books to date, two currently in the editing phase, and working on the ninth. His compelling stories are thought-provoking, knowledgeable, exciting and persuasive, and draw much-needed attention to important global social issues. While vastly different, they share a common goal: To make a positive impact on people.

Tim Gurung’s life journey is a remarkable story in itself.  Born and raised in Nepal, at age 17 he became a Gurkha soldier with the British Army, stationed in Hong Kong. After retiring from the army, he remained in Hong Kong to work and raise a family.  While he enjoyed his job he wanted his life to mean more than just an income, so Tim made a promise to himself that for the second half of his life he would follow his heart. True to his word, Tim’s passion for writing has resulted in several highly successful books, and today he is able to donate the proceeds from these books to his family’s non-profit foundation, ISSLCARE, that makes it possible for needy families in Nepal to send their children to school.

Five Steps is Tim Gurung’s first published book. It is about a man who loses his family in a freak accident. As he investigates clues found at the scene, he gets caught up in a whirlwind journey that takes him across the globe ─ a journey that changes him and those he meets in positive ways as he learns to see life from different viewpoints.

Missionary or Mercenary is the story of a middle-aged man returning home after years abroad helping his countrymen in need. Using profits from his business to build a children’s home, he unwittingly attracts unwanted attention from a political party trying to align itself with his noble work ─ which wreaks havoc on him, his family, and business.

A Tree Called Tenalpa, a story of migration and discrimination, is a profoundly tender tale of six different color birds that live peacefully together in a huge tree until their world is turned upside by a storm. Through exquisite storytelling, we learn how the birds adjust to a new living arrangement and cope with their respective problems and survive.

Afterlife. We’re all curious about the afterlife and what happens after death. Where do we go and what’s it like in heaven and hell? While Afterlife is an intriguing story that takes readers into some strange and frightening places, it also takes them on a beautiful otherworldly journey that has them wondering if these mysterious places might just be real…

The Cursed Nation is an inspiring story about overcoming obstacles on the path to a better life. When a young man moves to the city, he gets a job where he’s in contact with many powerful and influential people – like his boss, who becomes prime minister of the nation. But when the corrupt political games get to be too much for him, the young man decides to move to a poor suburb in the city and help the struggling residents. It’s while he’s helping these people that his own life starts to change in many positive ways.

A Nation for Refugees is a satisfying and inspiring read of love, trials and triumph. After college, a young man joins an internationally-known company where he works for several years, but when problems surface in the hierarchy he is forced to give up the job he loves. To make ends meet he opens a makeshift café in a tent outside his home, and barely ekes out a living. All that changes when Sarah, his first real love, reenters his life. As the café becomes popular, their newfound wealth allows them to contribute vast amounts toward helping refugees.

Tim Gurung’s humble beginnings did not allow him the opportunity to attend college, but this was never an obstacle for him. He learned from real-life experiences and is living his dream today ─ a respected author, devoted to helping those less fortunate through his family’s charity.
