Book Promo ~ The Darwin Project: Annihilation Series

The Darwin Project
Book One: Annihilation Series

 by John Hindmarsh

Darwin – Demon or Friend, the Beginning or the End?

That’s Toby’s enigma. When he inherits his uncle’s corporate empire, he discovers it’s controlled by two superintelligences.

Darwin wants to prove he’s more intelligent than humans. For Bronwyn—the other SI—there’s no mystery: she already knows the answer.

The corporate empire is based on robotics—it’s the world’s largest manufacturers of processors, software, and templates for robots. Bots are taking over mundane jobs. They’re intelligent, perhaps too intelligent. Terrorist groups—led by brownshirts—are furthering social unrest.

What is the mystery of his uncle’s disappearance?
Toby’s friends are assaulted.
A brownshirt group plans to kill him.
His girlfriend is kidnapped.

Will Artificial Intelligence be the end of Humanity?

The fuse is lit for an exciting thriller.

From the Author

I have a muse that sits on my shoulder and beats me over the head with a cricket bat if I don’t take notice of its urgings.
About two – three years ago I encountered some comments by people like Elon Musk and Stephen Hawking about artificial intelligences (AI) and superintelligences(SI). Others have joined in, some not so alarming. Their comments – warnings, really – also caught the attention of my muse and the possibilities have been rattling around in my otherwise empty skull.
Well, you should be able to understand why my muse became excited.
Add social, economic, and political issues to the technological aspects and the result provides a basis for a suspenseful and challenging thriller series.
Now I don’t know whether to describe the Annihilation Series as a technothriller or a political thriller or simply as an exciting thriller series. I’ll let you make up your mind about the sub-genre possibilities.

Note that the books in this series are not intended to be standalone thrillers. They are intended to be episodes of a serial, with each book following on from the prior books.

Book Promo – Moving Past PTSD: Consciousness, Understanding, and Appreciation for Military Veterans and their Families

Expert Speaker On PTSD Discusses
US Air Force One-Day Operational Pause To Help
Curb Increased Suicide Rates In Military Personnel

From World War I through the present, the United States has neglected to provide adequate transition support to millions of veterans leaving military service. Instead of meaningful jobs, access to quality healthcare and education, and fair and equitable housing, what our veterans find when they return home is a new battle — against a failed bureaucracy that has let them down for the past 100 years.

As a nation, our misguided perception is that GI Joe and Jane can simply return home and pick up right where they left off. In truth, the military member who deployed overseas is often markedly different than the one coming home.  The Joe and Jane who joined the military in the first place are gone, and they’re not coming back.

After months or years in highly structured organizational environments, often with deployments and horrific battlefield experiences, many military veterans have undergone paradigm shifts in their thinking, their character, and in the way they view themselves and others.

In his compelling new book, Moving Past PTSD: Consciousness, Understanding, and Appreciation for Military Veterans and Their Families, expert speaker and retired Lieutenant Colonel Jaime B. Parent tackles many issues facing our nation’s veterans, including mental illness, unemployment, discrimination, and many other challenges related to transitioning to civilian life. Using thought-provoking interviews with veterans, caregivers and family members, Lt. Col. Parent hopes to break the relentless cycle of misunderstanding that prevents far too many veterans from successfully reintegrating themselves into family lives and careers. Moving Past PTSD aims to change our understanding of who the 21st century veteran is. Through this understanding, we can change their lives — and the lives of those who love them — for the better.

Author Jaime B. Parent is a retired Lieutenant Colonel, Lt. Col. Jaime B. ParentBiomedical Science Corps, United States Air Force.
