Changing A Culture Of Poverty And Corruption

PACAW: Changing A Culture Of Poverty And Corruption To One Of Hope Through Education For Children In Africa

The mission of Pan Africa Children Advocacy Watch (PACAW), is to nurture and develop a new generation of African leaders via access to a different educational culture at the primary and secondary school levels. In providing the infrastructure and staff for quality education for pupils in poor underserved communities Pan Africa Children Advocacy Watch promotes change.

“We can help develop better leaders when early education focuses on turning the gaze of the children away from avarice, extortion, selfishness, the vain, and obsession with accumulation of material wealth.” Dr. Sylvanus A. Ayeni is president of the nonprofit organization. “This type of education culture at the basic and secondary school levels would prepare young people for leadership that champions the development of their nations from within, and embraces living for a higher purpose.

“We’d like to expand our programs to several states in Nigeria,” says Dr. Ayeni. “In particular we would like a presence in the delta area and the northeastern part of the country where education has been brutally decimated by stone age ideologues.” Later, they plan to establish similar programs in other countries in sub-Saharan Africa.

The Biennial PACAW Leadership Academy is the second component of PACAW’s program. The Academy is for community leaders, the teachers and interested young graduates from the country’s tertiary educational institutions. The lessons and the values learned are then passed on to the children.

The third aspect of PACAW initiatives is the Community Economic Empowerment Program, intended to lift up the community economically. The goal is to transfer the PACAW programs to the community, the local government and perhaps, the state government within about ten years. This is designed to break the cycle of dependency which is so deeply entrenched in many nations of Sub-Saharan Africa.

PACAW is governed by members of an all-volunteer board in the USA and Africa. Members of the Organizing Committees of the programs at the grassroots level in Africa are all volunteers as well. Your assistance in helping us to get generous donations to this cause would be greatly appreciated. Currently, at least 95% of donations go directly to the village (community) in Africa for the projects to fulfill the mission of PACAW, Inc.

Dr. Ayeni is a retired neurosurgeon and former associate professor of neurosurgery at Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska. Born in Nigeria, he has studied and taught around the world. For more information, please visit: www.pacaw.org.

PRE-RELEASE REVIEW

“kept me awake long after I finished!”

“I was quite excited to be offered the opportunity to read and review Paul Zunckel’s Cry of the Fish Eagle after having read everything of his to date and never being disappointed. In a bit of a twist, this book kept me awake long after I finished! The manner in which historical and cultural legends are fit so cleanly into a contemporary thriller is superb, leaving no doubt that Paul Zunckel has a bright future in writing and storytelling!

Piet van Zyl steps into the darkness of the mind when a violent blow to the back of his head causes him to suffer memory loss. Left for dead, to wander the wilds of the Zambezi Valley, home to the big five, unarmed and with no memory of who he is or where he comes from.

The search is on for the burly South African, one a search and rescue, the other a seek and destroy. Who will get to Piet first… will he survive the wilds of Africa, the land he loves, or will it destroy him?

5 starsAction packed with several nailbiting suspense scenes

Reviewed by FSW

The author posess the ability to smoothly tells a gripping story full of adventure and a lot of unexpected twists and turns. I admire Piet’s determination to stay alive, the courage he had to teach the rhino horn poachers a lesson they will never forget. I judge many a story from how I would have edit it, but Paul Zunckel writes stories that flow and there is not a single line/word that I would have deleted. The character Piet loves his wife dearly, I like the banter between them where she throws a boot at him and he ducked just in time. This book let me laugh out loud, and feel every emotion. It has severel nailbiting suspense scenes. The characters of Piet, Peggy, their baby Heather and Piet’s close knit friends Veronika and the Frenchman are believable and loveable. Even Piet’s workers has great admiration and respect for him and it is clear that Paul Zunckle succeeds in writing the character traits of each of his characters. Paul writes with great humor and insight which provide the emotion needed for spesific dramatic actions/events. I would recommend that you read all of his action-packed books.

Black Magic, witchdoctors, things of old, or, are they? Are they still being practiced in Africa?

What would happen if your husband inherited a property secluded in the African bush? Well most of us would grab the chance with both hands of a new life. This is exactly what the main characters Adele and her husband David did. They arrive at the new homestead and realize it has much work needs doing to be considered somewhat livable.

Newly married the pair embark on this new chapter in their life, looking forward to renovating the property and moving in, but their happiness is soon short-lived when they start noticing weird things happening. They are in the African Bush, animals should be in abundance, birds should be tweeting and flying overhead, but in fact around their property there is none, which is definitely a warning flag.

Before long they soon discover why, they actually do have an animal living on their property, or is it an animal? Walks like a human leaving footprints like a human, but its shadowy figure looks more like a hyena. This confirms to them that something evil is there, something neither man nor beast, just evil.

The pair enlist help in tracking down more information on the beast, they need to know what it is and how to deal with it, because this is their home and Adele is damned sure nothing is pushing them out of it.

You will be taken on a journey, an adventure, a scary trip that will have you rooted to the spot, whispering to yourself, WATCH OUT, perhaps yelling at the kindle like me!!! This is a fabulously well-written story, it tells the story of the old ways, witch doctors, medicine men, of tribal beliefs, the things that scare the tribes, the information is endless, you cannot help but be compelled to read on, to follow the journey to the end, keep praying for a miracle because these pair along with their friends and helpers are going to need more than help, they are going to need every ounce of their wits, their courage, their skills, and prayers to protect them.!!!

Step into the darkness of Africa with me…
Don’t be afraid… after all, it is just my imagination…
or is it
?”

Blood Moon over Africa.

A growl shatters the stillness around them, and into the moonlight walks a creature that only nightmares are made off, Veronica stiffens as she sees what has invaded the yard, she feels Pastor Steve jerk next to her, and from Peggy comes a gasp of utter disbelief, that carries across the space between them and the creature, Philip buries his head in his hands at the sight of it.

Standing in the moon light, looking directly at the chicken houses, seeming to look right at them is a man, a man with the head of a hyena, it growls low in its throat, and slowly starts to make its way across the yard towards the chicken houses, its eyes glowing and it snarls, exposing wicked fangs.  The breeze picks up, and the creature halts, lifts its head to the night air, looks again in the direction of the chicken houses, turns in the direction of the mule, and shatters the night with a howl, before making off into the bush in the direction of the terror stricken cry that fills the night.

Blood Spoor in the Dark

The figure starts to claw at Lam’s face like a leopard, but rather than claws raking the body, Piet catches the glint of steel claws in the moonlight.  The killer had returned to complete the cult ritual of sacrifice.

Piet, clutching his .38 moves out from the cover of the forest and advances towards the Leopard Man.  All his anger at the atrocities that have been committed by these things against innocent people starts to boil over.

“Hey you sick fuck, I’ve got something here for you.”

The Leopard Man looks up at Piet, from his crouched position over Lam’s body, and snarls at Piet as if he were truly a big cat, then he springs towards Piet, his steel claws seeking the big man’s throat.

Piet side steps the man’s charge, and as the Leopard Man’s momentum carries him past Piet, Piet’s size 10 boots catches the man in the small of the back, sending him crashing to the ground.  Snarling and spitting like the leopard.

Piet looks down at the man, and places a heavy foot behind his neck, pinning him to the ground.

The Leopard Man squirms beneath the weight of Piet’s foot, and growls out a warning.

“You whites are fools, you cannot kill us for our magic is too strong, you do not realise our power.”

Piet drops onto the back of the struggling man.  Pinning him down with his full weight, the barrel of his .38 pressed against the back of the man’s head.

“It’s all mind over matter you sick fuck, I don’t mind, and you don’t matter.”

The report from the .38 in Piet’s hand echoes over the forest, and the face of the Leopard Man disintegrates from the force of the bullet.

“Ja, now go tell the people your fucking muti works.”

Blood Demon-Revenge

The interior of the warehouse is gloomy, with only the lunar light from the moon breaking through the skylight windows and the scattering of black candles that burn at intervals along the path leading up towards the front of the building where a crude altar has been erected.

Around the warehouse are people huddled together waiting for the arrival of the Lion Man, and to worship the demons of the dark in an orgy of blood.

The frightened whimpers of a young boy carry across the silence as they wait for their master to arrive.  The parents of the child have bound his hands and feet, for has not great glory been bestowed upon them by his being chosen by the great master as the one to feel the power of the claws.  His innocent blood is to be spilt to enable the master to speak to the ones from the dark side.

Movement from the front of the warehouse brings silence down on all that are gathered, and then before them, held by a chain appears a lioness.  The chain is padlocked to a steel bolt in the floor and the handlers move off to join those already waiting.

The low growls from the big cat fill the area, and then she lies down to wait, for she has been here before, and knows that before tonight is over, she will feed.

A figure appears before the assembled crowd, and a murmur ripples through them.  The Lion Man now stands before them.

Amos, now naked except for the skin of a lion, draped over his body, the head of the beast placed over his head looks out at the people below him.  The steel claws attached to his hands glint in the light from the candles.

His voice reverberates across the silent warehouse.

“Who brings the chosen sacrifice; stand so that I may see you.”

The couple stands with their bound son between them.

“Bring the boy forward so that we may please the elders, and they will open the doorway to the underworld.”

The Devil in Eden.

The village is made up of thatch and mud huts.  Half naked children run around in the dirt playing, while chickens scatter in front of them.  The women busy themselves around the cooking fires, while the men folk sit under the great tree smoking, and drinking homemade beer.

On the horizon, the massive storm clouds gather, the wind whipping the corn fields into frenzy and sending up dust devils into the darkening sky.  The villagers hurry to the shelter of their huts, and huddle together to wait for the storm to pass.

The night is dark as the thunder rolls across the sky, flashes of lightning turn night to day and the heavy rain pelts down through the canopy of trees as the killer moves silently towards the village.

No-one will hear the screams tonight as the thunder drums out across the sky, and the killer moves steadily through the forest in the direction of the sleeping village.  He pauses as he breaks through the thick foliage that surrounds the village.

Slowly he surveys the area, his eye moves over the mud huts, he smells the wood fires that burn inside, and hears the sound of people sleeping as he steadily moves across the muddy open area towards a hut closest to the edge of the forest.

He pauses at the door to the hut, his sense of smell tells him that the people inside are sickly and weak.  He tries the door, but it is wedged shut firmly from the inside, so he moves around to the back of the hut, and standing, tests the mud walls.

He applies his weight, and the wall starts to crumble.  Terrified voices ring out from within, that the Devil is here, and the sound of their fear drives him on, and with a lunge the killer enters the dark interior of the hut.

Evil comes in many shapes and sizes. Some in the imagination of man and woman, others, not so lucky for they exist in the real world…ask yourself, what is fact and what is fiction?

Blood Moon Over Africa (The Blood Trilogy Book 1) by Paul Zunckel

The creature from Blood Moon over Africa….. The creature advances on her lifeless form.

They watch in stunned silent horror, helplessly as the drama unfolds in front of them. Across the clearing the voice of Pastor Steve can be heard, he is praying out loud for strength, and guidance.

As the creature reaches down to Veronica, Philip opens the makeshift gate in the fencing, and with a primal scream launches himself at the beast, armed only with a hunting knife, he attacks with a blind fury, stabbing at the creature and the two bodies go down in the dirt, the beasts growls and Philip’s screams of rage fill the night, suddenly cut off as the powerful jaws clamp onto his throat, and rips the life from his body.

The creature stands, Philip’s blood running from its massive jaws as it once again turns its attention to the group behind the fence, Veronica forgotten, lies behind it in the dirt, consciousness slowly returning.

The creature’s eyes lock on Adele, the object of its hate as it moves forward towards them. The sound of the gate at the chicken houses opening causes the beast to pause and turn, and in the moonlight Pastor Steve steps out, into the open, clutched in his hands are the crucifix and bottle of Holy Water, the pastor has found his calling, a warrior for good against evil.

He calls out to the group. “I’ll hold this creature of darkness at bay, get to the launch as evil cannot cross moving water, get to safety.”

Blood Spoor in the Dark (The Blood Trilogy Book 2) by Paul Zunckel

The evil that men do in the quest for power from Blood Spoor in the Dark…. “My brothers, we know who you are, we know your families, but you know us not. I offer you the gift of life, join us or die here now at the hands of the leopard, prove to us that you can be trusted, go forth and kill a white man. Make the kill look like our brother, the leopard.  Bring back the man’s heart and genitals, for I will make a strong potion to give you power beyond your imagination.  Do this and you live as one of us, refuse and you die by our hand.”

A ripple of fear washes over the group at the witch doctors words, the Leopard Men are on a recruitment drive, and the men selected for recruitment don’t have much of a choice, join or die.

One of the young men, breaks free of the circle, and throws himself into the darkness of the forest, screaming in terror. The witch doctor turns to the men and issues instructions. Petrus and two others moved off into the darkness in pursuit of the fleeing recruit.

Several times the terrified man is forced to make detours into the heavy underbrush to avoid his pursuers, his heart hammering in his chest for he has heard of these killers for hire, these Leopard Men. These eaters of men, and he wants no part of it and his fear pushes him blindly forward.

The talons striking from behind sink into his chest and abdomen, as strong arms encircle him, pulling him into a death embrace, he abandons all hope of living when he sees two others in front of him, the steel of the claws flashing in the moonlight.  His body is dragged through the forest, back to the waiting men at the fire.

Petrus enters the clearing, dragging the body by the ankle, tossing it to one side with contempt. The witch doctor moves forward, the glint of a sharp blade in his hand.

“Now my brothers we eat, we eat the flesh of the coward for tomorrow night, we are joined by these three and they need to be baptised in blood, let them join us in our feat, lead them and show them how to kill, put blood on their hands so that they will swear allegiance to the brotherhood.  Bring me back the heart of a white, and if they do not take part in the kill, bring me their heart’s as well.”

Blood Demon: Revenge (The Blood Trilogy Book 3) by Paul Zunckel

The evil that comes from the bowels of the earth, summoned by the evil in men…Blood Demon-Revenge…. ‘You are but cattle to me fools; you cannot escape me for you have been given to me, run like mice but I will find you and taste your blood.”

Peggy glances behind them and sees the demon moving swiftly in their direction, running on all fours in an effort to cut off their escape, she lifts her revolver and in quick succession fires off four rounds at the advancing creature, all four hit their mark.  The demon falls to the ground once more.

The steps of the church are under their feet as they climb up towards the door, a howl of rage follows them as the demon rises back up from the mud, and rushes forward towards them.

Suddenly, as if the very ground beneath its clawed feet had turned into red hot coals, the demon gives a shriek of terror, and throws itself backwards away from where it had run.

It stands across the empty space glaring malevolently at the party, huddled on the steps of the church, its hunger for them radiating from its eyes, yet it will not advance.

“You puny human cattle have only delayed your end, and what would have been a swift death will now be slow.   You will end up begging me to end it.  You are on holy ground, and you have the sanctuary of the church, but I am older than that.  I will wait and relish tearing out your lungs and hearts from your bodies, this I promise you.”

With that the demon turns to meet Amos as he moves on to the church grounds, the blood streaming from the wound on his temple, a result of the butt of the rifle being harder than his head.

“Bring them to me mortal, for I will feed, and feel their bones crush beneath my jaws, I hunger for their blood.”

The Devil in Eden: A Piet van Zyl Adventure Thriller by Paul Zunckel

Then we have the evil that hunts the African night…The Devil in Eden… The night is dark as the thunder rolls across the sky, flashes of lightning turn night to day and the heavy rain pelts down through the canopy of trees as the killer moves silently towards the village.

The terrified screams of the occupants are unable to penetrate the night as the thunder and lightning drown out all sound, as the killer grabs an old woman by the shoulder, and drags her through the broken wall, out into the darkness.

The lightning flashes, the lion stands with his victim between his forepaws, looks back at the hut, towards the cowering people inside, issues a deep growl as if challenging them to follow, reaches down and drags the still screaming woman into the forest.

Book 1 of The Blood Trilogy

by Paul Zunckel

Africa, a place where superstition and witchcraft runs deep, a place of beauty, but where death lurks in the shadows. A land shrouded in mystery, with ancient beliefs simmering just beneath the surface – set on a collision course with modern western ideas.

An innocent act unleashes a horror that walks the African night… under the full moon… and nothing is safe.

Piet van Zyl, safari owner, finds himself drawn into a world of witchcraft, and face to face with a horror returned from the grave. With the support of Veronica Strydom, with her vast knowledge of African Culture, he must rid the night of the abomination, or die trying.

REVIEW

“…you cannot help but be compelled to read on…”    reviewed by Lilian Flesher

[This review is from a gifted ebook reviewer copy.]

You will be taken on a journey, an adventure, a scary trip that will have you rooted to the spot, whispering to yourself, WATCH OUT, perhaps yelling at the kindle like me!!! This is a fabulously well-written story, it tells the story of the old ways,  witch doctors, medicine men, of tribal beliefs, the things that scare the tribes, the information is endless, you cannot help but be compelled to read on, to follow the journey to the end, keep praying for a miracle because these pair along with their friends and helpers are going to need more than help, they are going to need every ounce of their wits, their courage, their skills, and prayers to protect them.!

They arrive at the new homestead and realize it has much work needs doing to be considered somewhat liveable
